The City of Sands for 5th Edition and Pathfinder!

The City of Sands adventure module starts where the Domes of Ishaq-Zahur leaves off, sending a party of heroes from the peril of the desert tombs to the streets of the sandy metropolis, Archensheen. There the players will find themselves caught in the middle of a fierce struggle for political power and ancient artifacts as factions from all across the city vie for control of relics from the Nartheneen's glory days. Choosing a side may make more enemies than it does friends, but can the heroes survive if they choose to stand alone?

Hello adventurers and dungeon masters!

With City of Sands completed and shipped, we have been kickstarting the next leg of the Fate of the Forebears adventure path, Lion's Vault!

With 10 days left in the project, we are looking to make a final push to reach our funding goal. An exciting sequel to City of Sands, the Lion's Vault continues the story that began with Domes of Ishaq-Zahur as the players explore a sinister power that lurks in the deep desert.

With your help, we can reach our funding goal and bring another masterwork quality product to your gaming table. If you have friends, players, or fellow dungeon masters in your life who would appreciate this piece, we encourage you to share this project with them. We thank you for your support for this series, and we wish you best of luck as you adventure in the City of Sands.

 

It's here! Digital Release!

City of Sands has arrived! By now you should have received an email from BackerKit with instructions to download your copy of the adventure and any extras you picked up. If you haven't gotten that email, check your spam folder! If it's not there either, send us a message here on Kickstarter and we'll make sure you get your goods.

Jon has received the proof from the printers, and it looks awesome. But don't take our word for it, here are some pictures!

 

Since the proof looks great, we'll be putting in an order for printing and then they'll be on their way to you! If all goes smoothly, this will take about two weeks, but it could be more or less depending on how all the stuff out of our hands goes. Thanks for your patience with the delays, and I hope you enjoy the adventure! You can expect a few more updates from us down the road with news about the rest of the adventures in the Fate of the Forebrears series, but this is the last of our regular updates. It's been a fun journey, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

July Update - The Home Stretch!

We're almost there! Thanks for sticking with us during this slightly longer than expected journey. I'll hit the noteworthy developments here, then give you some important dates at the end of the update!

Writing

The adventure text is finished! It's fully written, had multiple editing passes, and it's on its way to the formatter as we speak. Not much more to say here, it's been a wild ride getting here but I think the final product is going to be awesome. Ryan Servis and Chris Grey really excelled in their contributions. Chris provided the final "dungeon" in Act Three of the module, and Ryan fleshed out the Archensheen Appendix to provide plenty of information for running adventures in the City of Sands, even if your players go completely off the beaten path.

Maps

Check out that gorgeous piece of work! The art team knocked it out of the park, as usual, and the maps are all finished. The full set of digital assets includes blank maps, player-safe maps with objects (as seen above), and DM specific maps with objects (like the above map, but with room numbers, traps, and secret doors all marked).

Important Dates

With formatting and final review coming up, we are two weeks from a finished module. This means that in two weeks, we'll be sending the files off to the printer for proofing. We'll make any needed adjustments to those, and once they're 100% ready, we'll deliver the digital versions to you and put in the order for printing! You can expect digital versions in about three weeks and a printed copy in about four weeks

Thank you again for your patience with the delays we've experienced in producing this adventure. City adventures are challenging. But I think you'll love the finished product, and I hope you feel like it's worth the wait! 

We'll send out a mini-update when we get the first proofs back from the printers, and then the next time you hear from us it will be to deliver the PDFs to you!

June 1st - State of the City (of Sands)

Hello! May was a very busy and productive month here at 2CGaming, and I'm happy to say City of Sands is roaring ahead. Acts 1 and 2 are finished, and the Appendices detailing Archensheen are well underway, as is Act 3. You should have the fancy and stylish PDF in your hands later this month, with print copies coming in early July.

To keep things on track, we've expanded the writing team! We've brought on Ryan Servis and Chris Grey, both of them veteran Tabletop RPG writers. Ryan Servis is the author of 2CGaming's Epic Legacy and knows a thing or two about creating compelling characters! Chris Grey has a lot of his work up on the DM's Guild and is working on his own Powered by the Apocalypse game system: The Happiest Apocalypse on Earth. In short, they're both very good at what they do. 

In addition to helping with the Third Act of City of Sands, Ryan and Chris will be working together on the next module, The Lion's Vault, so this should give you a taste of their unique style that you'll see in that adventure!

We've also got a map preview to show off from Tommi Salama, the fabulous Castle Quintaris - last bastion of House Quintar and the site of some deadly struggles in City of Sands' Third Act.

The finished map will feature objects, doors, and all that cool stuff, but you can already see how awesome it's looking!

Once the writing is done we'll pass it off to our editor, then on to formatting, then the PDF will be sent out! We'll keep you in the loop as we hit those milestones. Thanks for your patience while we finish up this adventure, City of Sands is a big module and I think you're going to be very happy with the final product.

May Update

Hello backers! Here's the current development status for City of Sands:

Writing

Writing of the project is taking longer than our initial estimates. Last month we said we wanted to finish the writing by the end of April. Act 2 is very nearly done, and the Act is underway. This won't delay delivery of the module to you, you'll still get the digital copies in June, but it will likely be late June rather than early. Physical copies will arrive 2-3 weeks after the module is complete, which matches our delivery estimate of July. It's very important to us that we keep you informed about our development process. We want the module be the best it can be and that means we're spending more time on it. An extra pass of editing and revision will make sure the module is easy to run and fun to play.

Tokens

Natalie has been hard at work bringing the citizens and adversaries of Archensheen to life! From merchants to mercenaries and everything in between, you'll find a token for every major player and enemy the party will run into in the City of Sands.

We have two new pieces by Jason showcasing two very different sides of Archensheen.

The Ruling Council is made up of representatives from the major factions of Archensheen. Its membership is constantly shifting, with members new and old trying to shape the council to their advantage.

On the other side of the city, the Thieves' Guild of Archensheen works tirelessly to undermine the restrictive efforts of the Ruling Council. They believe that too many restrictions stifles trade, and that a city like Archensheen depends on free trade to survive. Your players are going to be making friends (or enemies) with these and many other factions during their time in Archensheen.

Music

Kole has finished the second track for City of Sands, titled Wyverns & Warlocks! This one underscores combat in Archensheen, with hints of backalley brawls, assassination attempts, and all out war. Conflict in the City of Sands takes many forms. Here's a one-minute preview of the song:

The Lion's Vault

Because we beat our funding goal for City of Sands, we were able to get Ambrose started on the cover art for the next module, The Lion's Vault. As usual, he did an amazing job!

For now, we're keeping very quiet on plot details for the next module. But rest assured, you'll see plenty of foreshadowing in City of Sands about what's to come in the rest of the Adventure Path!

That's our May update, when next you hear from us it will be to announce a more specific delivery date in June for the Digital module, and our estimated printing and shipping dates for the physical versions!
